What aspects need to be improved in the treatment and use of animals?

Animals should not be used for entertainment, research, or work if it involves suffering. In many cases, the conditions in which they live need to be improved, especially in factory farms and zoos. Below are some key aspects that must be considered to transform the treatment of animals:

Aspects for Improvement:

1. Scientific Research

- Animals such as monkeys and mice should not be used for medical testing if ethical alternatives exist.

- New medicines could be discovered without resorting to animal suffering.

2. Zoos and Shows

- Large mammals should not be kept in captivity unless their well-being is guaranteed.

- Horses should not be used for tricks that affect their physical health.

3. Responsible Ownership

- Monkeys and exotic animals should not be kept as pets.

- Dogs should not be used for fighting, and they should not be allowed to be beaten.

4. Farm Conditions

- Conditions for livestock on factory farms could be significantly improved.

- Why do chickens have to be raised in such confined spaces?

Personal Opinion

I believe that respect for animals should be a core value in our social ethics. Animal suffering must not be normalized, whether in science, industry, or cultural traditions. While some customs may hold historical importance, they should be reexamined if they involve cruelty. Preserving culture should never justify harm to sentient beings.

In my view, how we treat animals reflects our humanity and moral progress. Promoting animal welfare is not only about protecting animals it’s about fostering a more compassionate and just society. Shifting our attitudes is a crucial step toward more ethical coexistence with all living beings.
