When Fear Is Felt in the Body
Fear isn't just an emotion that lives in the mind; it also manifests in the body in surprising ways. I remember once when I had to speak in front of a large group of people. I was so nervous that my heart was pounding so hard it seemed like everyone could hear it. My hands started trembling and my voice cracked, which made me feel even more insecure.
In another experience, I faced my fear of heights. It was such an intense fear that my legs went weak and I struggled to stay on my feet. I felt a cold sweat run down my back and my breathing became rapid and shallow. This physical reaction prevented me from moving forward, even though rationally I knew I was safe.
The curious thing is that these physical effects of fear are often stronger than the very thought that triggers them. The body reacts automatically, as if it wants to protect us from a real danger, even though many times the "danger" only exists in our imagination. Learning to recognize these signs has helped me understand that fear is not an enemy, but an alert that I can handle calmly and with practice.
